It is almost fifteen years since I had my battle with breast cancer. I remember thinking after treatments were finished. “That’s it, finished let’s get on with life. However, every time a cold doesn’t get better, or a pain continues or I just don’t feel well, the demons are still there. The question, is it cancer, always returns and it will probably always be there.
I can never let myself get complacent about staying healthy. That’s why I jumped at the opportunity to join Bosom Buddies, when I heard Margo Kleiker and Sharon Driscoll were in the process of forming a dragon boat team for breast cancer survivors.
I have been a member for three years and it has been an incredible experience. I feel fitter than ever and I have many new friends who are the very best part of dragon boating. When we get in that boat we feel strong and there is a wonderful bond. We laugh and joke a lot but we all know we are there for each other no matter what the future brings. We are a team!
